A lot of new songs have come out since the main page here was last updated. People have written out tabs for the new songs and posted them here. The problem is that people are attemping to use this forum as a way to archive tabs and that's not what it was designed for. When you click on a thread about a song you end up reading through 15 pages of people posting all different variations of the song and for an inexperienced guitar player it can be frustrating to not be able to quickly find the most accurate tab in the thread.
What I'm proposing to do is setup some sort of a DMBTabs Wikipedia type site. The idea would be that anyone could register and submit new tabs when a new song comes out or corrections to existing tabs. I'm still trying to work out the details and the logistics. For instance, when someone submits a tab change or new tab should it go through immediately or should a moderator for the site need to review and approve the change. I'm pretty good with php and mySQL databases so I believe I could fully automate the site. Because it would be automated and updated by the users of the site it wouldn't get out of date like this site has. Even if a new album came out, it would be possible to just click an add new album button, then add new songs one at a time. People would be able to put up their initial guesses at tabs similar to what happens on the forums here, but eventually through user updates it will a get to a point where there is only a single accurate tab for each new song. Ultimately we'd have all the information we already have here on the DMBTabs forums but it would be displayed and organized similarly to the DMBTabs main page.
So I'm just looking to collect some input from all of you about what features would be useful for this type of site. Ultimately if I got it up and running I'd take a cut of the most accurate tabs I can find on the boards for all DMB songs and upload them, and then leave the site to be run by all of you.

I like a lot of the ideas you have and think this is a good idea. Maybe a section for people to post video lessons and even links to youtube covers. I still think having a forum would be a good idea. Adding the ability to post guitar pro tabs would be cool too. As far as the editing goes, I think a good way to manage it is to do it the way ultimate guitar archive does it, by having multiple tabs of one song and then allowing members to rate which one is the best. This way no one has to moderate the tabs and it allows people to post other interpretations of songs.

I kind of like the idea, but explain to me how it would be any different then ultimate-guitar.com ?
It's not ultimate-guitar because it is dedicated to DMB, in the same way this site is not ultimate-guitar... The only other difference I can see with the wiki format is instead of listing a bunch of tabs and their rating, there is one main tab that we all agree on and everybody tweaks. If we basically just took this site, added the ability to add new tabs and edit tabs, that would be perfect. Hell the only problem with this site is the webmaster doesn't update it, so since 2005 we've had to put all the new tabs on the message boards.

I like this idea a lot.
Wiki sites are getting really popular, and they really are just a good idea. When you've go the entire community able to add to what's going on, it should make for some very accurate tabs. Even if there is a difference someone sees, it can just be listed as an "Can also be played as..." section.
