Ants Intro Walk

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Ants Intro Walk

Unread post by #36 » Thu Jun 05, 2008 2:57 pm

Anyone know the tab for the walk that Dave plays in order to play along with Boyd and Roi right before the verse starts - the part that sounds a tad bit like dueling banjos? Looks like he plays it all in the first 5 frets live. Probably something similar to the Bass Walk on the site just converted to guitar???

Thanks!

Are you talking about what's listed as the funk intro on the site (below)?

Code: Select all

E----------------------------
B----------------------------
G----------------------------
D--12--10--9--7--5--3--2--0--
A----------------------------
E----------------------------

Tap,

No, I am talking about the part that the whole band plays right before they go into a verse. It is the part that goes, "da, da, dah, da, da, dah, da, da, dah ---> into the D chord that begins the verse. Boyd and Roi pretty much do it, but on the live versions you can see Dave play it along with Boyd and Roi. I think it is very close to the Bass version of the tab below, but on guitar in the first 5 frets.

base walk before verse
E------------------------------------------|
B---------------------------------------|
G---------------------------------------|
D---------------------------------------|
A---------------------------------------|
E-3--2-3-5--3-5-7--5-7-9--7-9-10\-|

Superj,

You are right, he does that some times, but not all the time. I'm at work and don't have a video to post, but going off the top of my head - did he do it on the full band VH1 Storytellers Ants?

It actually is the part that the band plays right before the second verse starts. It is something that he started playing along with the band only the past 5 years or so.

don't know if it's what dave plays, but i play it like this...

Code: Select all

-2--x-x-x-------------x-x-------------x-x-x----------------
-3--x-x-x-------------x-x-------------x-x-x----------------
-2--x-x-x-------------x-x--------6-7--x-x-x----------------
-0--x-x-x-----4-----4-x-x--5-7-9-x-x--x-x-x-----4-----4-0--
----------4/5---4/5--------x-x-x-4-5--------4/5---4/5------
---------------------------3-5-7---------------------------
and so on with the verse...

you can also substitute the x5x7xx chord with the normal D chord.

Thanks Smedley, but I am actually looking for something different that that.

It looks like Dave plays something along these lines.

E----------------------------------------------------2
B---------------------------------2--3--5-----------3
G------------------2--3--5-------------------------2
D-----2--3--5---------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------

And the D chord begins the second verse.

Hey that's cool! I'm going to start doing that.

I don't know what you are going for on that tab up there... but I'm just going to throw this other part out there since I always wondered what it was before I finally saw it somewhere. Try playing this and maybe it is what you are looking for:

Code: Select all

 ------------------------
 10-10-10-10--10-10-
 11-11-11-12--12-12-
 ------------------------
 ------------------------
 ------------------------
PS Apologies for the shitty tab it is the first one I ever tried to make. If it isn't clear, that is the 10th fret on the b string and the 11th on the g string. Played with the same rhthym of the verse like DUN-REST-DUN-DUN-DUN-REST-DUN-DUN. Sorry I'm kind of self taught on guitar and have a hard time explaining things sometimes.
