Singing tripping billies

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Singing tripping billies

Unread post by bryanwie » Mon Dec 22, 2003 2:07 am

Can anyone sing the verse of tripping billies while playing the full guitar part? They are so off from each other that I just cant seem to get it...

Its actually pretty easy once youve played the verse so many times you could do it in your sleep. It all comes with time/practice. But its definitely a lot harder than most songs.

I think that song took me maybe an afternoon to learn, singing and chords included. Granted, that is one of the hardest Dave songs to master singing and playing, at least for most.

I find that most/alot of dave's lyrics fit perfectly with the guitar, especially Tripping Billies. Granted it was very tough for me to learn, once i learned how to sing it and i learned how to play it was simple. Its alot like Sattelite and WareHouse, once your hand learns it and your mind and mouth learn it then your bound to put the two together.
The guitar does go along with the words if you just play the verse in your head and just sing it: "We were above, you were standing underneath us, we were not yet.... lovers." -ba...ba.
(sorry i'm rabling...i am stoned
but anyways, you could almost break it down into sections with the verse and the lyrics.
Well, thats all i'm gonna say for now. Give it a try and goodluck!
Just wait till the day you get it down...woo hoo!

Play along with the CD and whatnot...It'll help because when you can't sing at the right time, Dave will do it for you!

I can sing it, but that key doesn't agree with my vocal chords. So I choose not to sing it :) At least in front of people.

Well, i can sing it, just sometimes I lose my pace, both guitar and voice. I actually learned it as my first dave song, lol, wasnt amazingly hard. I'll just keep practicing. 8)

the lyrics definitely fit with the guitar, i think the hard part about this song is realizing that they do. one day it will click and you'll be like "wow, these words fit perfectly."

it's one of those songs that happens all at once when you get it.

What helped me eventually was... first try just humming while you play... transition to singing the lyrics. This helps for the Stone too, or any song where the rhythm isn't straight forward, for that matter.
