WOW thanks for all the great info HDguy. you're one of the best new posters i've ever met :) you seem to really know your stuff, so I'll keep my eye out for the d-16 adirondack. And thanks for reminding me about the cutaway, it's honestly something i forgot about. i found a hd-28 on craigslist in d...

No problem Jack. Yes, it is kind of strange that that the DM3MD is based on the 16 Series. People are often confused and think that it is based on the D-35 due to the three piece back, but in all reality, the bracing and the neck are the same as the 16 Series which gives the DM3MD the 16 Series soun...

In that price range, you can get a Martin 16 Series which is what the DM3MD is based off of. Don't forget though, the DM3MD has been taking a back seat to the HD-28V most of the time. The Martin HD-28V is a much nicer guitar, by a long shot, and from a distance, looks very similar to the DM3MD. The ...

Re:
He does mute the high E string. The way I do it is whatever finger I am using to play the bass note, for example in the first chord in the verse you use your index finger to play the bass note. so what i do is press the low E string with my index finger and then rest the rest of the finger on the s...

None of the above. Find yourself a used Martin D-16GT for that price. Great guitars with all solid wood construction. Spruce over mahogany (which is becoming more and more scarce and is often substituted with sapele). Unless that is you want new. You listed a lot of different options...cutaway, on b...

Yep, you need to take it to a technician and have them perform a setup. It will run about $50 or $60, but they will adjust the action, nut, and saddle. Your issue has to deal with the intonation of the guitar, which has to do with a few things, namely the bridge and saddle. They will check that and ...

General rule, by the best you can afford at this time. Cheaper acoustics tend to sound "bright" as compared to better models with solid woods. If you can get anything with a solid wood, I would start there. Epiphone, Takamine, Yamaha, and Seagull all make very reasonably priced, solid wood acoustics.

Re: Expensive Martins/Taylors
Guys, I need some help if you wouldn't mind. I have two guitars in mind that I want to buy and i was wondering which would be better to play primarily acoustic Dave. The Martin HD-28V or the Martin D-41 Special? Dave plays the HD-28V but the D-41 Special has nicer tonewoods and it is much prettier....

Re: yet another question about dave's gear
From what it looks like, he used to use the DM3MD a lot, but has transitioned back to the HD-28V for his main live acoustic when not with DMB. Yep, pretty much, although I thought it was interesting that he used his DM3MD for Farm Aid 2008, but his HD-28V for Farm Aid 2006 and 2007. Another way bes...

I know for the RC show, as many have noted, he plays a variety of guitars, however, about 2/3 of the time (yes, I have done the math out of curiosity), he plays the HD-28V. Why over the DM3MD many ask? Because it blows away the DM3MD in terms of sound. I currently own the following Martins: 2 HD18JB...

Re: Re:
[quote="HD18JBGuy"] I have a DM3MD, an HD-28V, and two Jimmy Buffett HD-18JB limited edition guitars (all are made by Martin). While the DM3MD is a great sounding guitar, it doesn't hold a candle to the other guitars in terms of sound and sustain. I have played a few of these, so I know mine is not...

Re:
around $5000+, at the minimum I got one about seven weeks ago on Ebay for just under $4k. If you pay more than $4k, you are getting ripped off. People often forget that this guitar is basically a D-16RGT with an African Padauk wedge in between the rosewood and an Englemann spruce top. Yep, there is...
