Re: Audio & Video Request Thread (DM/DMB/D&T/D&F)

uh, yeah. actually, exactly precisely yeah. i think this might be the exact recording i heard on coffee house. sans audience. must have been from the Virgin soundboard. i can't believe you found it on youtube. i've spent hours looking for it there. me feel so stupid. thanks much for the reply, much ...

Re: Audio & Video Request Thread (DM/DMB/D&T/D&F)

heard a killer DM solo version of Where Are You Going on XM coffee house last thursday. never heard it before, and can't find it anywhere. it was so distinctive to my ears because Dave fingerplucked the whole thing (i really like when he does that), and i couldn't detect any mistakes, so my guess is...

Tim in perpetual drop-D?

Is it just me, or does Tim play the entire Radio city show in drop-D tuning?

Re: Dave's Martin + pickup chain

I'm finding more and more people saying that Dave uses an HD-28, but I thought it was HD-28v. I did find this highlight from a "rock legend" type book -- more detail on the signal -- http://books.google.com/books?id=dSayh1kdSLwC&pg=PA87&lpg=PA87&dq=%22B%26K+4051-A%22&source=web&ots=5BffCoQv4X&sig=K1...

Re: Dave's Martin + pickup chain

I've tried the search function, but I guess I didn't use the correct words -- I tried "HD-28v pickup Fishman" and didn't get anything that would clue me in. any advice?

Dave's Martin: HD-28 or HD-28v?

for D&T shows, does Dave use an HD-28 or HD-28v? I thought the V, but one website says he uses both variations. Also, I thought the V denoted the V profile neck, but lots of people believe the V denotes "vintage" appointments. if that's true, then what's the difference between a D-28 and an HD-28?

Dave's HD-28v: L@LC vs. L@RC

at which show did Dave's HD-28v sound better? why? I heard he switched his sound chain between these shows. don't know if that's true, or a myth. but his guitar sounds different after the final mix. not talking about the other guitars he used at L@RC -- the Taylor GA or GS or whatever it is sounds c...

Dave's Martin + pickup chain

does anybody know Dave's pickup and system that he uses on his HD-28v for D&T shows? I've heard Fishman Matrix Natural 2 UST, then through a Countryman DI, but those were just rumors I think. I've also heard that in the past few years he added the Fishman Aura after the UST pickup, but that would me...

Re: Warehouse instructional?

That is probably the best instructional I've seen, taparoo, thanks. :D The more I play it, the more I realize that it's not as sloppy as some other players think it is-- I think Dave really nails 2 strokes each on 7 -- 9 -- 11, then immediately to 7th fret G string. Whereas, everybody else just stru...

Warehouse instructional?

I can't find any decent guitar instructionals on how to play Warehouse. There's lots of stuff on YouTube, but everything I saw there got the rhythm all wrong. I need a tutorial by a Warehouse purist. If it's unclear what I'm talking about, go back to the roots of Warehouse -- Record Exchange Store 1...

Re: Why is Martin Dave's go-to guitar at Radio City?

Here's my theory on why the HD-28V is his go-to at RC -- it's the Sitka Spruce top. It can take some seriously heavy strumming (think Dancing Nancies, Two Step). Compare the DM3MD -- I think that has an Englemann Spruce top, which isn't as stiff as Sitka, and thus doesn't have the "headroom" of Sitk...

Re: Why is Martin Dave's go-to guitar at Radio City?

I too prefer the tone of my Custom Brazilian and Cocobolo Taylors over the Martins I've played. But I think that Dave turns to his trusty Martins when tone matters most (D&T, studio). And clearly, Dave has forgotten more about acoustic tone then I'll ever know. So I just wish I could hear what he he...

Why is Martin Dave's go-to guitar at Radio City?

I think I understand why Dave prefers his Taylor(s) when playing with the band -- to cut through the mix of drums, bass, etc. But I don't understand why he likes the Martin with the Fishman pickup at Radio City (I understand he uses Taylor and other guitars also at Radio City, but his Martin is clea...
