on ants, dave actually slides and then hammers, so he's actually doing both. he slides with his middle finger then hammers with his pointer.

atleast that's how how i play it.

I have so much trouble holding on to the pick when i'm playing.
I can't get through a full song without it sliding around where it eventually feels like I'm going to drop it. I realize that i'm holding loosely but when I try to grip it tighter my strumming suffers.

well said. the songs from last summer: crazy easy, joyride, sugar will, etc. remind me of the "lillywhite sessions". They played them live, then put out a completly different album(Everyday). THEN they put out Busted Stuff which turned out to be, IMO, possibly the best collection of songs on one alb...
