For strumming, I started with Lie in our Graves. Practice the first four beats of the intro, including the dead struming (Sixteenth note pattern after the D major chord). That was my first strumming pattern that is very common in Dave songs. Good luck. As my first guitar teacher said....it will come...

song
I chose my first Dave song based on what I wanted to play, not on ease. It's my thinking that if you have a song you're dying to play, you'll practice it more than a song that you are doing just to do. I started with So Much to Say. It was a while before I nailed it, but man when I did, it felt grea...

Thanks... This version seems a little sparse. Especially in the section "I never did a single thing..." In the version in standard tuning it is two notes instead of three (Of course because there is no string on top like the other version). Is there any optional version that will give it a little mo...

Tuning 'I Did It'
I see on the boards that the guitar is to be tuned for :
BEADF#B
Is there any alternative? Does dave ever use a CAPO? If not, do I tune it DOWN to B or UP to B?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

HD28v
I have not played a HD28v, but have played the D28 and HD28. Is there much of a difference, and how so?
Thanks.
Jimmy

Dave and Martin
Hi, I am a Dave fan, looking to buy a Martin guitar. I've played a ton, and have narrowed it down to a few. I was hoping some people would be able to give their input. I know that every guitar is different, and it's individual choice, but I'd love some extra input. Martin D35 v. Martin HD35: I loved...

I should give online theory lessons...maybe 10 bucks an hour via paypal :) I am the opposite of just about every guitar player. I was a musican first, and am now just picking up the guitar. Most people, I find are guitar players reading tab and playing by ear, and trying to figure out theory. I wish...

The guitar progression you listed above (em, bm, etc.) is all in the key of D, which is why soloing will work. It has to do with accidentals (Sharps and flats), and what notes get them. In the key of D, the notes are: D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D The chord progression you listed uses the same notes, and...

...It is usually asumed when it comes to minor chord progressions that they are played using the 'harmonic' minor scale, not the 'natural' minor scale. The reason is to keep the V chord a dominant chord (V7). It has to do with rules that go back to the 1700's with J.S. Bach. Remember, rules are made...

Ovation legend
I have been playing guitar for 2 or so years. After starting on my 'crappy' guitar to make sure I wouldn't get sick of it (Sigma Martin), I decided for a good purchase. After much searching I decided on an Ovation Legend. I loved it, until now. In practicing, I never stand up. Now that I'm ready to ...

Benaroya Hall
Hi again...
I've seen on YouTube, dave doing solo acoustic in Benaroya hall. I'd love to get my hands on it...does anyone know where I can get a video? Perhaps a bittorrent site?
Thanks,
Jimmy

Hi all... I'm a beginning player (2 years with some lessons), but am a trained vocalist already. I have probrably a dumb question, but hopefully someone won't mind answering: While playing the chorus of the song (It's crazy, I'm thinking, just as long as you're around, etc.), because of where the ch...
