Open D Tuning

Any advice for playing in Open D? I have been messing around with it lately, but I'm trying to figure out some good songs to play around with in this cool tuning. Thanks for your help!

Re: DMB COVER SET LIST

I think that set looks really good. Not to keep harping on this, but I wouldn't end the night with a cover song. Thank You is a good song, but people expecting a DMB cover band will probably like a DMB closer for the night. Maybe consider moving Thank You to a closing position in the last set, but n...

Re: DMB COVER SET LIST

Yeah I'll try to make it up there. I'm down in Bloomington for school right now but if I can get back I'll be there. I got your email and I'll get back to you about the show.

Re: DMB COVER SET LIST

Looks pretty good man. Any idea of what order you were planning on playing them or do you just decide that on the day of the show? I would say add LIOG because of the jam you could have with it, and its such a fun song overall. I've also been playing So Damn Lucky tons lately and its become a favori...

Re: Open Mic Night Suggestions

Ya I know its a broad question... Sorry about that. I might throw an original in there, I just have to build up the confidence to do so. Thanks for your advice though.

Re: Suggestions to dry my oily hands to make playing easier?

Thanks everyone. I looked into it and supposedly using talcum powder is pretty common and a lot of guitarists do it, so I'm pretty sure it won't ruin my fretboard with chemicals. However, I bought Gold Bond for some reason thinking it's the same thing. Does anyone know if Gold Bond can damage your ...

Open Mic Night Suggestions

I'm playing an open mic tomorrow night and was looking for some good suggestions. I searched and found some good advice but does anyone have any actual song suggestions? I played my first open mic last week and sang Grey Street and a couple O.A.R. singalongs. Thanks for your help!

There's also an aspect that nobody has touched on yet when it comes to Dave. Ya if you learn some songs his style can get repetitive, but I think one of the most difficult parts of learning Dave songs is remembering how to play them. They aren't simple three chord songs, you have to have the skill a...

Start with songs like Grey Street, Say Goodbye, Crash is a good one to work on stretching, Lie In Our Graves and Granny are all good too. Good luck

Is all of this the same advice you guys would give for an acoustic guitar? I have both but I don't really know what to clean the body of my guitar with. It's a pretty cheap guitar, but I dont want to ruin any of the finish (its black).

It's just practice, man. I have pretty small hands myself, and have been playing DMB for a while now, and it hurt at first and I couldnt' quite do it, but now it's easy. Practice playing 53x5xx first, and when you can get that easy enough, start adding the xx2xxx with the index finger to complete i...
