I have played a D-28, HD-28 and a D-35 and here are my impressions:
1. D-35 is more bassy than the D-28 without losing treble volume
2. HD-28 is slightly less bassy than the D-35 with more distinct midrange and treble response

If I were you I would seriously consider getting a fishman rare earth soundhole pickup. They sound awesome and they are removable.
