A variation of the pentaonic scale is the blues scale.

Of the major scale, it is notes 1 2 (#2/b3) 3 5 6

The #2/b3 adds a tasty transition.

There is literally no chord progression you could use that hasn't been used before, unless you're doing something that makes 0 musical sense.

Yeah I wouldn't worry. I'm sure the progressions in Dave's songs have been used a lot before.

Pretty easy, how is this even debatable? #41 and Stone are in a whole different universe.
