sure they can, arpeggiation is a type of linear device just like passing or neighbor notes. skips of 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, and 6ths, and 8va are commonly referred to as arpeggiation

if you use two mics, you have to make sure they dont end up out of phase. some mixers have a phase adjust that fixes this though.

that's what i thought, more people are familiar with wynton than ellis i would think
