Just a little insight on the aim/firewall topic, if you are both using the same client, and both have the same settings, it will work. Download the latest Aim Beta and configure accordingly and it'll work.

Very good question - I don't exactly know the perfect beat notation, so I'm not going to attempt to write that out, but I do know if you tap your foot 16 times to one measure of the verse, that's the relative beat and you just have to build your strumming pattern around that.
