Well, the Martin and Taylor that you mentioned are shaped differently. Some people like the auditorium style of the Taylor x14 models, but I am a tradition dread guy myself. I would seriously look at the 700 series of Taylor. It is basically the same as the 900 series but with less ornate decoration...

I think that for around 50 total, there is no way to go wrong. Even if it is just a piece of shit that can just be used for situations where a good guitar would get killed, it is probably a good way to spend 50 dollars.
