Les is sick...he's so creative. Honestly, I don't think it matters how fast anyone can play or whether or not they use a pick...if you're doing something on any instrument that's innovative and your own style than you're a good musician imo. Les is a great example of that. I guess Flea isn't all bad...

Just because Marcus Miller can rip up a pentatonic scale doesn't make him the best bass player. Like people have been saying, listen to Vic on Flecktones stuff and there's some of the best basslines around; or at least more impressive than Marcus. ^^^^ I agree somewhat...unless you have your heart set on being in a cover band, it's probably better to do more improv than playing exactly what Tim plays, especially in solos. However learning stuff people like Tim play is never time spent badly if you ask me. IMO that's where you get your best ch...
