i dont know a damn thing about pitch or anything but we have lots of problems with our vocalists in our schools pep band..can't be of any help but to say be careful and refer to piano when you're ready and comfortable..

rhythm in jazz is awesome..i didnt know a thing when i first started but once you learn the basic chord structures you'll be fine..if you're serious about it get a mel bay book-if im remember that right-and remember jazz is a whole different field. avoid barre chords. its pretty easy, just build up ...

I just get bugged when I play too late too..apartments definitely aren't for me... and i usually practice at school so i get lectured for not being home enough and practicing instead of doing homework etc.

I only get in about an hour a day, but much more on weekends, but including jazz and combo rehearsals its a lot more than that. I do ok, probably slack too much

Janet Jackson. Avril gets on my nerves, as Christina, boy bands-the whole group of them. Agreed on the rappers as far as musicians go for jazz its good to hear a bassist or guitarists who avoid playing too much blues/blues scales only for solos. I would recommend talking to your schools music director-mine gets quite a few calls looking for combos, and the demand is especially high around Christmas. Also talk to local restaurants-I've played and been payed by places smaller than Starbucks.
