I think one thing to consider about Taylors is that for acoustic/electrics their expression system is pretty popular and a lot less conspicuous. Taylors are usually described as "bright", which maybe is what you're looking for in a "crisp" guitar? For straight up acoustic, all around best tone quali...

well if you don't mind being a step off, then you can use your capo to get an open E tuning. i've never heard of the guy though, [b]so i'm unsure of what kind of sound you are going for . [/quote]I don't pretend to try for Leo's sound. That would be like an orangutan trying to waltz. For all those ...

Does anyone know a good Leo Kottke tab site? This is the best one I've found: http://www.tabpigs.org/thetabs/leokottke.html It's not perfect, but they come pretty close. They also have MIDI files to go with the tabs which can be helpful. There's also a bunch missing because there's a lot published....

Re: Open D tuning w/o detuning

There is a such thing on the market as a "Drop D" capo, made by Kyser. I think Shubb makes one as well. That may be something that you could be interested in. However, it's for capoing up and having the ability to leave the low-E in D. So, that may not be what you are after. That might be useful, I...

Sorry, to clarify, what I mean is, can you use capos to get relative tuning the same as open D? For instance, you can use a capo to play a song in dropped D without detuning: capo ADGBE at 2nd fret (i.e. don't let the capo touch low E). Then play the song using normal fingering. Like I always play D...

Open D tuning w/o detuning

I really want to try to play Leo Kottke's version of Little Martha, but it requires open D tuning and I hate detuning my guitar because then I have to retune it to play anything else. I want to be able to just pick it up and play. Does anyone know if it's possible to get open D using multiple capos ...

pantala tim part on these crowded streets

Does anyone have the tab or know what chord is played during the beginning of pantala on the album version? I'm talking about the E:-------------- B:------------- G:-11----11--- D:-7-----7----- A:-9-----9----- E:-10----10--- part. The second time around, it sounds like someone (Tim maybe?) plays som...

I don't have one, but the few times I've tried them I thought they were actually easier to play because you can play simple riffs and have them sound fuller, i.e. you can leave notes out of basic chords. I also like the bigger spread of the fingerboard, but I started on a nylon string.

I've heard that you do want extremely low action for tapping, like the width of a penny at the 12th fret, but that sounds really low to me and I wonder if you could even get that on most acoustics without touching the 1st fret.
Maybe you need a really high nut to get that low and avoid buzz?

Morgan Guitars

Anyone play a Morgan? I'm wondering what they sound like relative to others (like a Martin?). I can't find one anywhere to try and the only registered dealer near me is in Maine.

I don't think that was what he was saying at all and I don't understand why you would respond that way.

When I first began to play this song I would always just play the notes as if it were a riff. But after watching some videos, I realized that Dave almost plays chords and strums as he is hitting these notes. I tried this and it helped alot Yeah, I found that helped a lot too. Also, I think it's goo...

I always thought that Dave used simplified fingerings a lot because shit was just too tiring to play over a whole song, and unnecessary when you have a full band or Tim to fill in. Like 41, for example, I always saw the verse to be a simplified, easier version of the intro. So like in the first chor...
