well, it depends, you can mute with your strumming hand aswell as your fretting hand. For example, when i play 'the stone', i tend to mute the strings with my strumming hand, this way you don't have to be as precise hitting the right string, while if you play it without mute theres always the danger...

Raised B tuning

How do you tune your guitar to raised B? eg: for drop d you would tune your low E one full step down and leave the rest untouched. imo there should be an explanation of tuning on guitar sites - this one too - where it says how to actually tune your guitar to a particular style, instead of just sayin...
