Going to buy an electric guitar. I really like Strats but they all seem to come with Tremelo systems which I don't think I would use not to mention I have heard that even when not in use, a tremelo system tends to cause the guitar to go out of tune more frequently.

Any comments, advice ?

Guys I'm starting to shop around for an electric guitar. I really like Strats but I don't like the fact that most if not all (unless ordered special) have a tremelo system...which I would never use, and I hear contributes to tuning issues. I'm also a big fan of the Les Paul guitars, but can't afford...

Sorry what I meant was fret the A string at the 6th fret which is E-Flat. Tune the low E to that (even though its an octave lower). Then tune the guitar as normally would at the 5th position (with exception of the B).

Just to confirm, to tune down 1/2 step I tune the A string to the 6th fret of the low E, and then continue tuning at the 6th (with exception of the B I would tune at the 5th). I am learning some Nirvana unplugged and they all seem to be tuned down 1/2.

I want to play this song but I'm nervous about tuning my guitar up on the low E. Is it risky....or is there an alternate way of playing it ?

Hi Guys I have been progressing through a few Dave songs. The videos have been very helpful. One thing I am confused on is the muting. I tend to mute with my strumming hand however I seem to get the effect of "stopping" the sound instead of creating a muted strumming sound...which I know is correct....
