The tuning pegs are a gear mechanism. Likely they are really loose and the gears are slipping. You may want to replace your tuners.

What I meant was tone is all about the player. Its in his fingers... I could pick up my friend's setup and have 'my tone'. Anything after that is done automagically with electronics.
