I'm a martin guy, so naturally i would choose the martin. If you plan on performing with the guitar i would choose taylor. Taylor guitars have a more crisp sound that would cut above the rest of the instruments. I personally believe that Martins are much more suited for solo work. Just my two cents

Dave owns two different types of the 914. The first one has a more rounded cutaway, which i believe is called a venetian cutaway. The other guitar with the pointy cutaway is called a florentine cutaway. Both are the same model 914, just two different types of cutaways. I think i said cutaway one too...
