DMBTabs.com Faithfuls...Need your help

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

DMBTabs.com Faithfuls...Need your help

Unread post by jkanter » Wed Jul 02, 2003 11:14 am

OK....first off, some of you may have noticed but I regret to inform you that I have removed Xoosh as a moderator from the boards. I have come to this conclusion after weeks of thinking about it. My reasoning behind it boils down to the fact that I he has not been around AT ALL in a while. I understand he has stuff he needs to do and that's fine...he just doesn't really have time to spend mdoerating the boards at all. Things seemed to go a little down-hill after someone else was chosen to create the new site layout and I didn't want it to happen like that. DMBTabs.com WOULD NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT XOOSH and I can only thank him for his extremely hard work dedication in the past. So THANK YOU Jon and, obviously, we want you to spend as much time on the boards as you can spare because we all value your opinion.

Now, for the important part...I need you...and by you I mean those loyal to DMBTabs.com to HELP OUT. This has been a main concern for a while with the site...we need the lyrics to songs put under the chords. This is a very daunting task...that currently I am unable to do on my own because of my 9-5 job. Basically I want..NO, NEED...all of you to help out.

Here's the deal, I do not want 15 people to send in a Crush one...but no one Pay For What You Get. You can "sign-up" here for right now. PLEASE READ ALL POSTS TO SEE IF A SONG HAS BEEN CHOSEN. If you see a song chosen already, do not post you will do it. I will delete all double posts. Here are the following rules you MUST FOLLOW if you decide to help:

1) The tabs used MUST be the original tabs from DMBTabs.com. I understand some people have their own tabs but this will be used on the MAIN tabs from DMBTabs.com. No more seperate lyrics page(well it will still be there but...ya know). I am going to see if we can find a way to let the user choose to see if they want the lyrics there....but they might just become the defacto standard.

2) ALL LYRICS MUST BE STRAIGHT FROM ALBUMS if a song is on an album. This is for the same of all users not using live shows

3) You are NOT to add anything to a tab unless you FULLY DEEM IT NECESSARY...and by necessary I mean ONLY A MUTE OR SOMETHING. The actual tab must stay exactly the same. As always, if you think a tab should be changed...I am ALWAYS open to suggestion, but for this, USE THE REAL TAB.

4) Each chord must be lined up where it would FIRST be hit. From there, people can get the idea of strumming depending on the length in between chords(or from videos/DVD).

5) Please only do this if you plan to follow through...and only if you will do the whole song. I do not want little parts to each song

PLEASE HELP!!! This could bring DMBtabs.com to another level...and I am putting it on your guys shoulders. You are the most dedicated fanbase and we have a great niche here. Now, I don't think I will be able to give each person credit for each tab they have done....but I will make sure you get credit some way. It might be only in the form of a big thank you to the community, but when it comes down to it.....all that matters is that people are able to learn tabs easier. If you think differently and need personal recognition...then your at the wrong place. I know I get a lot of it(and might get more for this being on my site) but none of that matters to me. I just want to play guitar and help people learn. My time restraints don't allow me to do this myself but I think you guys could do the entire community a HUGE favor by helping out. Anyway, lemme know what you all think....PEACE

Like should I just copy/paste the tab into a text file, edit it and Email it to you? This is the least I could do for all the help your site has provided. I'll sign up for more songs as I get time (which is limited...).

Please do not post the tabs here. Do exactly what you said and I will put an e-mail address up which you can send them to later...thanks

Should I just line up the words with the tabs for the stone, or just where there are chords like in the chorus???

Jared, this will be an awesome addition and will secure DMBTabs slot as THE #1 DMB guitar tab site in existance (IMHO).

Another thought...realizing that your time is very limited this summer, would you feel comfortable with delegating to some of the more "respected" members of these boards (and please anyone do not take offense to this..I am not trying to put anyone down for thier guitar abilities) the task of doing the initial reviewing of the submissions, before it goes to you for approval? (don't want to volunteer them but several names come to mind). Just trying to cut down on your work.

The goal is to get as close to 100% accuracy as possibe, and to get there may take a few iterations for each song and that will add up to alot of time.

Anyway, just a thought.

Danny

Currently, if a song has repeated parts, WWYS, for instance, you show how to play the verse once. With the addition of lyrics under the tabs are you looking for the whole song tabbed out? For example, in WWYS, you'd want the repeating riff shown over and over above all the lyrics?

I'll be happy to help, but don't want to invest a lot of time into something and have it be wrong.
Peace,

Stunt

Unfortunatly I don't have the skill required to help out in this area. I just wanted to say that it is a GREAT idea for beginners (like myself) to get those chord changes down just right. Thanks for this site. It's only going to get better with this. THANK YOU to everyone who contributes.

Wanted to let everyone know that I have So Much To Say done (this is most likely one of the hardest to do, because it isn't just chords).

I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...
