LIOG question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

LIOG question

Unread post by dmb_josh » Sat Mar 25, 2006 10:00 am

I have a question regarding the verse. Do you guys hold the G note down and let it ring when you play the xx42xx cord or do you let go of the G before you hit the other two strings?

Verse
E:-2--------x--------------------------
B:-3--------x--------------------------
G:-2--------x-----------2--------4--4-
D:-0--------x--0--2--4-----4----2--2-
A:-- -4--2--x--------------------------
E:-----------x-------------------3-------

I play the G-note by itself first, and then with the other two notes at the end. Dave has done this many times. Watch or listen to a D&T and you'll be able to hear it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Playing it the way you described gives that chord a much richer sound. I assume I am to mute the A string?

I switch it up all the time. Sometimes I'll hold it down while I do the xx42xx part, other times I don't. Same thing with the xx42xx part, instead I sometimes just play open notes (usually when I've had a few to drink or a little smoke or just lazy)

I usually hold the G while playing the rest of the chord.

no slide. I don't hold that note either on the last 2 chords... I shall try it though...

EDIT: Just gave it a go. very little difference in holding it down or not but it does give a little but more punch.

it just seems like its not worth the effort for something you can barely hear, but you can do your thing

The only part I slide on is when it goes

Code: Select all

E:-2-------------------------------------
B:-3------------------1-------------------
G:-2--------2---------2--0h2--0-----------
D:-0--2--4-----4--0---2----------4--2--4--
A:----------------------------------------
E:----------------------------------------

Instead I do this

Code: Select all

E:-2-------------------------------------
B:-3--------------------1-------------------
G:-2----------2---------2--0h2--0-----------
D:-0--2 / 4-----4--0---2----------4--2--4--
A:----------------------------------------
E:----------------------------------------
