My Tab Book
My Tab Book
So i went to this wedding after party last weekend and we all got smashed and played guitar. it was one of the greatest times i've ever had, we're talking aunts, uncles, cousins, old, young, too young, we all got smashed. freaking great time. anyway, a couple of us were sitting around playing guitar and singing and my uncle brings in this tab book full of good 60 and 70's songs. not really my cup of tea, a couple of them were good, but it got me thinking, i need to make my own. for whatever reason i had never thought about it. so i started...spent 2 days on the shit. and came up w/ this: (i don't have it in front of me so i can't give you every song)
clapton
old love
tears in heaven
running on faith
dave
an assload
ben folds
still fighting it
the decemberists
like 5 or 6 of their songs
ben harper
walk away
death cab
lightness
405
pearl jam
black
pink floyd
wish you were here
and a whole lot more. i probably have close to 70 songs in there already. what i need you guys for is if you know of any really good "crowd pleasers" that you could throw my way that sound good on one guitar. i'm not very diversified w/ music so i'm hoping to get some suggestions of good songs that i would never think of. and if you think of a good song and happen to know where an accurate tab is of it that would be greatly appreciated.

yea thanks haha. yea, but i agree. i always forget them and i suck at lyrics anyway so i figured this would be the best way. so far it's working like a charm. plus i've plateaued as of lately so i'm hoping this will get me back into playing daily. so far it's working.jsgksu wrote:I used to have one of these back when I played electric and listened to punk/rock music. I lost it and I was pissed. I have a huge book now of just random tabs Ive printed out, I should make one too. I always forget every nonDave song I know because I dont play them enough.
Youre welcome...

I used to do the tab binder thing.
I've got all my tabs saved as web archives on my laptop. Right below the tab I put a shortcut that opens up the song in iTunes. Under that, the lyrics. That way, even on my laziest days, it's too easy. Plus it's a snap to organize. No need to print out a page and mess with binders. My laptop goes EVERYWHERE with me.

I started playing 2-3 years ago and the first thing i did was creating a binder full of songs. I don't have it right now but i'm sure i could give you a couple good songs, some classics maybe ...
one hell of a good song, even just on guitar, is Radiohead's Paranoid Android ... maybe not the one to get the crowd up, but sounds damn good. it can be challenging too ... i'll try go give you more when i'll have my binder

Dm F Bb F C
Dm F C
Dm F A Dm C Bb Bbm (Into F with F-C note progression beginning)
Verse One:
F (F-C Root note going)
Love of mine,
Dm (D-A Root note going)
Someday you will die
Bb (strumming)
But I will be close behind
F C
I will follow, you into the dark
F (F-C Root note going)
No blinding light
Dm (D-A Root note going)
Or tunnels to gates of white
Bb
Just our hands clasped so tight
F C
Waiting for, the hint of a spark
Chorus:
Dm F Bb F C
If heaven and hell decide, that they both are satisfied
Dm F C (bar chord)
Illuminate the "no's", on their vacancy signs
Dm F A Dm C
If there's no one beside you, when your soul embarks
Bb Bbm F (Begin F-C root again)
Then I will follow you into the dark
Verse Two:
F (F-C root note going)
Catholic school
Dm (D-A root note)
As vicious as roman rule
Bb
I got my knuckles bruised
F C
By a lady in black
F (F-C root note) Dm Bb
And I held my tongue as she told me, "son, fear is the heart of love."
F C
So I never went back
Chorus Two (Same):
Dm F Bb F C
If heaven and hell decide, that they both are satisfied
Dm F C (bar chord)
Illuminate the "no's", on their vacancy signs
Dm F A Dm C
If there's no one beside you, when your soul embarks
Bb Bbm F (Begin F-C root again)
Then I will follow you into the dark
Verse Three:
F Dm
You and me, have seen everything to see
Bb
From Bangkok to Calgary
F C (barchord)
And the soles of your shoes
F Dm
Are all worn down, the time for sleep is now
Bb
But it's nothing to cry about
F C Dm Bbm
Because we'll hold each other soon, in the blackest of rooms
Continue strumming the Bb minor an extra measure before the last chorus.
Chorus Three
Dm F Bb F C
If heaven and hell decide, that they both are satisfied
