I guess I'll let you off the hook since you are still relatively new.
I did this mostly by ear and play it as an intro whenever I play the song. Its basically a simple little lick on the low E string

E---3b-0--12-10-12------fill-----3b-0-12-10---------

Use a lot of slapping and muting, and feel free to add your own personal touch as you feel is appropriate. The song is in the key of Em.

And since you asked for acoustic, here is how I play it. Again, by ear, so don't take my word for it.

I use the same ---3b-0 thing on the bass string, but then I play x7x9xxx x5x7xxx x7x9xxx to add some meat to the bass line. That is the basic melody, and after every other measure I switch between playing 076780 (E hendrix 7th_ and 0121121212 (A9) Listen to the sly stone version or Bonnaroo and you will hear those chords. You have to play along with a record or you will not get the timing correctly. The rhythm is very funky and can be hard to get at first.

Between verse, I play the following lick very percussively. you can barely here this in bonnaroo, only in the sly stone version.

e-------------------------------------------------------
B----------------3/5\5-----------------8/10-------------
G----7/9--xx---2/4\2------7/9--xx---7/9------------
D----x-x--xx---------------x-x--xx---6/7-------------
A----5/7--xx---------------5/7--xx--------------------
E----0-------------------------------------------------

No, all three notes in the slide are played together as a chord. The whole chord is slip upword. The same is true with the 23-45 thing right bebore. Bother are very quick and light. The E string open rings throughout.

I dunno, its a fun song tto play, but audiences usually only get into it at the end, so you have to get through the song first before you get to the fun part at the end. The main song is kinda boring to sing.

Thank You ~ Sly & the Family Stone

s = slap
p = pop
\ = slide
~ = let it ring

Main Groove
G:-------------p9--p7--p9-----------p9--p7------------
D:----------------------------------------------------
A:--s5---h7----------------s5---h7--------------------
E:----------------------------------------------------

and/or

G:------------p9--p7--p9------------p9--p7------------
D:----------------------------------------------------
A:--s5---h7---------------s5\7------------------------
E:--------------------------------s0------------------

And finish every couple times with

G:------------p9--p7--p9------------------------------
D:----------------------------------------------------
A:--s5---h7---------------s5\7------------------------
E:--------------------------------s0~-----------------

Vary the main groove a lot... and throw in lots of muted slaps and pops if you feel like its too empty.
