The encirlement...encircling... en circle somethin

Unread post by mangold » Wed Oct 06, 2004 4:45 pm

yo... my school had this wiggoty whack assembly today with the shanghai traditional instruments orchestra performing and this one dude had this like chinese mandolin thing with like a bajillion frets and he played something called the encirclement or the encircling or something about a war between the han and some other dynasty in 200BC. It was f'in incredible. way more impressive than classical gas, stream or any other onlyguitar no lyrics song. does anyone have anymore info like a recording or a tab...?

edit: the instrument is called the pipa

I'm not entrusting you to make that declaration.

I'm curious though. Let me know if you find a recording.

well i thank you for trusting me (bitch) and i am confident that i am right... this guy had like long gurli fingernails on his right hand and he was plucking the strings one with each finger by just unrolling his fist and he was going at like the speed you tremolo pick but with different notes. his left hand was flyin too (faster than that dude that posted the vid of him playing stream with the clock) heres a pic of the instrument:
http://www.szkp.org.cn/gusugongyi/art-i ... a-pipa.jpg
his was almost exactly the same except it had metal frets. its like less than an inch thick
he had his hand way up on the high frets that are like on the body. he held it like vertically in his lap... it was really impressive.
if i find a recording i will post it.

edit: pic of some 1 playin it
