Fellow bass players: Look at this 'Jimi Thing' tab.

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Fellow bass players: Look at this 'Jimi Thing' tab.

I was looking over at mxtabs.net, and found this. I was hoping some of you tabbers could use it to form a more accurate, complete tab of the song. Watching the LS dvd, the verse on this tab dosent match too well I think, and you rarely see Stefan play the chorus, so I'm not sure about that. But anyway, here it is.
Tabbed by: krbass Kyle Linder kylebassman2005@yahoo.com

Verse:
G:------------------------------------
D:------------------------------------
A:----7----7------9---------------7---
E:7h9---9------9---3---5-55---7h9----9

Right before the chorus play
G:------------
D:------------
A:7-/9\7---5/7
E:-------7----

Chorus:

A:--5h7p5-----------------
E:5-------5—5/10----8----5

G:-----------------------------------------
D:--7---5---4---3---2----------------------

E:3/12------------5-3-5-3

Another part of 1st jam
G:-----------------
D:-----------------

E:33-44-55---------

2nd Jam he does something a little different
G:-----11-10--8
D:-------------
A:-------------
E:3/12-10-9---7

Then he goes back to the normal 2nd jam

OKAY.. here's what i have for Jimi Thing, i know i'm missing parts, but they're beyond my grasp at the moment.

Code: Select all

Jimi Thing
Tabbed by GSRLessard14 from every version.
* = pop
( ) = optional note

Verse
I've decided this is the correct verse.
G:--------------------------------------
D:----------2-------------------2------
A:---2--4-----------------2h4----4----
E:-------------3--5--3-5---------------

you can play this...but its kinda iffy.
G:------------------------------------
D:----------2-----2----4-----2--------
A:---2--4------4-----4---2h4---4------
E:------------------------------------

another variation..
G:------------------------------------
D:----------2-----2----4--------------
A:---2--4------4-----4----------------
E:-------------------------3--5-5-5---

Lead in to the chorus
G:------------------------------------
D:------------------------------------
A:----8---10--8\3-3----3/5------------
E:-------------------5----------------

"Well sometimes a jimi thing slides my way...."
Quick guess based on the guitar tab.
G:------------------------------------
D:----2------------------2------------
A:------------------------------------
E:--------(0)-3-(0)-2-0-(0)-4---------

1st Bridge

"bereaved as i'm feelin"...follow the drum here
G:---------------------------------
D:---------------------------------
A:---5--5-6-7----------------------
E:---------------------------------

the 11 and 12 is the massive pull off, then its a varied little peice around the 10th fret of the A string, i put in one of the variations, but really any funky thing in that area sounds pretty good.
G:-----------------12(\)----------------------------------------------
D:-----------------11(\)-----------9---------9--------9---------------
A:-----6-5-5/-----------------10h11-----10h11----10h11---11-10-9-11---
E:--------------------------------------------------------------------

Falsetto Part "Lately iiiiiii've been feelin low.."
G:-------------------------------------
D:---------2*--------------------2-----
A:---2--4------------------2--4----4---
E:-------------3--5---3-5--------------

Boyd Solo Breakdown
G:--------------------------------------
D:--------------------------------------
A:----5---------------------------------
E:-----------5----7----3----------------

LS Jam
of course he adds various fills and stuff as the jam speeds up, but heres the main line. 8)
G:------------------------------------
D:------------------------------------
A:------------------------------------
E:---4--3-3-3/7-7--6-55-5-------------

annnd here's a real quick guess at the slow jam out.

G:------------------------------------
D:------------------------------------
A:------------------------------------
E:---7----5---5-44--3-----------------

Looking good. Thanks again to both of you. "Jimi Thing" is easily my favorite song, and the bass line has always been one of my fav's by Stefan. I'm having a good time learning this.

JIMI JAM
Central Park

(8:10-9:10)

G----------------------------
D----------------------------
A--5-5----7----5----7----5---
E----------------------------

G----------------------------
D----------------------------
A----------------------------
E--3-3----5----3----5----3---

From 9:30 on its a walk based around something similar to this

chord:--E---2---3---4---1---2---3---4---A---2---3---4---1---2---3---4---
G-----------------------------------------------------------------------
D-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A-----------------------------------------------4---4---5---5---6---6---
E-------0---0---2---2---3---3---4---4---5---5---------------------------

chord:--E---2---3---4---1---2---3---4---A---2---3---4---1---2---3---4---
G-----------------------------------------------------------------------
D---------------6---6---9---9---8---8---7---7---5---5-------------------
A-------7---7-------------------------------------------4---4---5---5---
E-----------------------------------------------------------------------

These are basically scales that you can move around to whatever octave you want. What you'll want to shoot for is that on the chord/count I have shown, where an E or an A is shown, that you hit that note on that beat. It sounds like the chords are actually E minor and A major, and some of the notes don't technically fit in the respective scale, but they work as a passing note in a walking bass pattern. To my ear, those odd notes work when walking up but don't sound right when walking down. When walking back down, stick to the scale.

Here are some scales to work with. This is what sounds correct to my ear, for what that's worth:

Over the E chord (E is the root, X represents notes on the scale)

---|---|---|---|---|---|
---|-X-|-X-|---|-E-|---|
---|---|-X-|---|-X-|---|
---|---|-E-|---|-X-|-X-|

Over the A chord

---|---|---|---|---|---|
---|-X-|-X-|---|-A-|---|
---|-X-|-X-|---|-X-|---|
---|---|-A-|---|-X-|---|

for the first part of the central park jam i use the blues scale starting on the 7th fret of the E... i guess thats "in B" ??

Code: Select all

G:----------------------------------------------
D:-------------------------7-------------99-----
A:-----------------77-8-9---99-8-7-7-7----------
E:---7-7-7-7h10---------------------------------

fonzie moves around the neck alot more, but this fits pretty well in my opinion, just as an alternative to stefan's line. and for the second part, the "bump bump, bump bump, bump bump bump" i pretty much play what streetfish tabbed above.
