omegatoalpha by dave and tim from vh1 storytellers.

by the way, the great site! i've used dmb tab sites quite a few times, but i'd have to say that this is the best dave tab site i've found.

omegatoalpha...

Unread post by rv02 » Wed Dec 11, 2002 4:35 pm

where did you get that this is a robby torres song? it's just that if i type "omegatoalpha" into any search engine it always comes up as a DMB song. i thought that maybe it was a one time jam that dave and tim did. (it may not even be from storytellers, but when i downloaded it from kazaa.com it was listed under album - "vh1 storytellers". but then anyone can just write that in if they're not sure where it's from.) seriously, look it up on any search engine, or download it from napster or kazaa or wherever... it always comes up as a dave song.

i will tell you this to start off with: the track is cd-quality, if it were from a show you would more than likely notice (though it could be a great sbd, but unlikely). and since it isn't on a single setlist for tim reynolds or dave matthews, and the people over at http://www.timreynolds.com had never heard of it, i concluded that it was not a dave or tim song. kazaa and other p2p file-sharing programs are infamous for mislabling songs. just because a song is labled something, doesnt mean it's necesarily that song.

after looking online for a while, i found a website that had cd track listings for robby torres, and under his cd "the jakob stone", it had the track "omega to alpha". that's the only thing i found on the internet that actually had some information other than a web site with a list of files people have (and one happens to be "live omegatoalpha.mp3". plus, when i downloaded my copy of the song, it had "jakob stone" as the album name. phew, im spent

that's some immpressive investigative work. it's not that i didn't believe you earlier, i was merely trying to explain how i could have been under the false impression that it was played by tim and dave. and then i just wondered how you found out about the robby torres connection because i wasn't getting anywhere when i tried.
so thanks for clearing everything up.

I do know that this thread is two years old but I just found it and I would like to chime in a little bit on this. Robby Torres, which is not a real name, is a person that was in a band called, "The Jakob Stone," that resided in New Martinsville, WV. I know this because I was friends with every member of the band, played with the band during practice sessions sometimes, and was in the studio during the recording sessions of the album. The album was recorded in 1998 and I think that maybe 2000 copies were made. I really have no idea how the song, "Omega To Alpha," got associated with Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, but I found it kind've interesting. The song was written by the bass player in about ten minutes and they recorded the song later in the day. Totally spurt of the moment. Robby Torres didn't really do all that much on this album. The other members of the band were the strongest points of the record, and Torres just played a basic rhythm guitar. I have the album and if anyone would like to hear any of it, I will send you the Mp3's or find a place on the web to put them.

can't say it enough
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
