Where Should I Begin

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Where Should I Begin

Unread post by Flakes » Fri Jul 30, 2004 8:37 pm

OK, to be honest i'm not the greatest guitarist. I am jsut starting to take lessons and have been playing for about half a year. Anyways, I was wondering where I should start in learning dave songs (which ones are pretty easy). And dont say do a search, becuase i did and unless im doing something wrong, i got 5,00 results of posts with the word beginner in it.
So any suggestions would be great.

umm, I've been playing Dave songs for about a year and a half, for starters I would suggest Typical Situation, Lie in Our Graves and get what you can from it, and maybe One Sweet World, specifally the Luther College and Two Things version; try those out, hope it helps

Lie In Our Graves is good, but tough. You have to be very quick and accurate, so if you're not good with a pick then it'll take time.

#41 is cool if you're just looken for songs to sing to. The intro is pretty nasty if you're hands can't make the stretch but its easily altered to make easier. The verse and chorus are cake.

Dancing Nancies, that one's cake.

Believe it or not, So Much to Say came really quickly to me. Its pretty easy to pick up and your hands move a lot so its flashy for the bystanders. Took me a lot of practice to get it down, but it was so much fun for me to play that I had no problem sticking with it. Same thing as LIOG though, you gotta be accurate with a pick. Its easily slowed down though.

Everyday is cool if you can make the 6 fret streatches with your hands. Its a good one to practice.

Lover Lay Down is cool, the verse is hella easy. Signing to it is tricky, but the chorus is a killer. You gotta be quick with the chorus and the switches are pretty odd when you haven't been playing Dave for long.

Digging a Ditch is hella easy, if you can do the wierd thing and figure out enough stuff doodle with.

Proudest Monkey: Find another guitar player and play the easy part while they improv some stuff.

I forget the rest.

It will get them in shape fast. Plus you never know, he might have long fingers or something.

yeah i was suggesting crash for the reason of getting them "in shape" faster, with the added bonus of knowing a song that everyones heard

Crash is great, and you don't even have to know it all because the one time i played it for a girl, i wasn't even half way through before she was like OMMG MIKE YOU ARE AMAZING blah blah blah and it's the only song i can legitimatley fully play and sing. i play bass for music...i play acoustic because some of the ladies are into it.

Seek Up is pretty easy and mellow. Blue Water is basicly 2 chords. Dancing Nancies is basicly chords, with the hammer on that you can learn later.
