Carter's Next Drum Instruction Video

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

my questions for carter

Unread post by davemathews48 » Wed Apr 05, 2006 12:03 pm

Hi, I'm a huge fan of the Dave Matthews Band and Carter Beauford. I'm about to graduate with a degree in Orchestral Percussion and just have a number of suggestions for that next DVD that I think are essential:

1. Discuss his rack setup and how it evolved from the early days
2. Discuss his use of different snare drums and why the changes
3. Discuss why his cymbals are constantly changing
4. Did he always have a drum tech for his big setup?
5. Discuss his drum solo from Live at Red Rocks before #36 and if he planned it out, how long it was going to be, does he want to take more drum solos?
6. Answer where he got that chinese wedding bell!!!! (biggest mystery of all time)
7. Talk about his band Secrets and where fans might find their album
8. Why he's never gone to PASIC or thought about doing a drumset masterclass

Any other suggestions before I send the email?

i like the bolded ones...he probably changes his gear b/c his preffernce for the sounds changes.

I have already emailed...I asked about his singing and drumming at the same time, how that developed. How he developed as a ambedexious (spelling is way off...left and right handed) drummer. And advice for drummers finding their own style and getting into a band

may need to re-word it....if he didn't like the sound then he wouldnt use it, the answer for all gear questions is the sound basically....maybe ask "how did you come across that idea?"

I dont know, but I hope it shows a clip of him playing be-bop/straight ahead jazz. I want to know what that would be like. Ive heard clips in some random linus and Lucy jams and a two step two years ago...but nothing more then a few seconds

yeah i suppose it did talk about that on the first, I would like more in depth though, it seems a lot of the stuff on there wasnt very in depth regarding carter's drumming (however there was a great bio on the band itself which I didnt really like, its a drum video they should focus on Carter)
