D-string buzz on "dave chords"

Unread post by czech » Thu Apr 07, 2005 4:48 pm

OK, so when I play a lot of the "dave" chords, such as the main riff from Grey Street and the chorus from Billies, my D-string always either rings open or buzzes.
any advice>?

Could be a lot of things. If you have low action and are strumming very hard then that could cause it to rattle. If you strings are really light then that could be the culprit. Try playing the string a few times and see were it is buzzing at.

You could need your truss rod tightened too. Lack of humidity could be the culprit as well.

I just bought a new Martin about a 2 months ago and was getting some serious buzzing on the E and A strings on songs that I was just hammering on the strings. So I went in and had them raise the action a little bit and haven't had any problems since.

I lie in san diuego and dont have a humidifier or a case, it is very arid here.

the action is pretty low for an acoustic, but not crazy low. i rather like it.

I'm gonna try getting mediums soon amnd see if that helps.

Let it ring man it sounds fine, I think the tab on the main site is wrong, I'm pretty sure that Dave plays the open D just listen a little closer.

I had the same problem with many "Dave chords" when I got to this site. I don't know what did it for me except practice. That's not a whole lot of help to you check, but just playing it more and more trained my fingers to lay the way they are supposed to on the strings.

ya dave plays open for a majority of the song, but mutes it for small parts to be quiet a little, like in story tellers
and all the little ants are marching..
